# Why are expeditions so expensive?
## Understanding the Cost of Expedition Travel
*This Article Applies to all Adventure Canada Small-Ship Expeditions*
Our expeditions take guests to distant regions that can be difficult to access and require careful planning, specialized equipment, and experienced expedition teams.
Expedition fares reflect the many elements involved in operating safely and responsibly, including vessel charter, expert guides, fuel, permits, meals, excursions, cultural programming, and on-board operations.
Travelling in the Arctic also involves higher logistical costs due to limited infrastructure, long travel distances, changing environmental conditions, and the expertise required to navigate these regions safely and respectfully.
