Expedition ship toilets operate using a vacuum system, similar to those found on airplanes. This system uses suction and minimal water to efficiently move waste through the ship’s plumbing and into an on-board sewage treatment system.
Because of this design, it is very important that only human waste and the provided toilet paper are flushed. Items such as paper towels, tissues, wipes, or any other materials can cause blockages and disrupt the system for multiple cabins.
