How do I find out about wildlife sightings?
Finding out about wildlife sightings
This Article Applies to Expeditions On Board the Ocean Nova and the Ocean Victory
Wildlife sightings are often announced over the ship’s PA system and shared during daily briefings. In areas known for wildlife, guests are also welcome to report sightings to the bridge or a member of the expedition team, many of whom spend time on active “wildlife watch.”
Spending time out on deck is one of the best ways to increase your chances of spotting animals. Keep an eye on the water, along the ice edge, or on nearby cliffs. During shore landings, especially for those interested in birding, taking time to look and listen quietly can lead to rewarding moments. Patience and stillness are often the key to memorable encounters.
If you do spot something exciting, let a nearby crew member or expedition guide know so others can share in the experience.
In today’s changing environment, wildlife sightings may not be as frequent or predictable as they once were. Shifting habitats and environmental changes mean that each encounter is a privilege. While sightings can never be guaranteed, they remain among the most powerful and memorable experiences of expedition travel.
